Poker is a card game where two players compete against each other. The goal is to win a pot, which is the sum of all bets made by all players during a deal. Players can win the pot if they have the best poker hand or make a bet that no other player calls. However, there are also different ways to win.
A pair consists of four cards of the same rank. When two players have fours of the same rank, the higher pair wins. If two players have fours of the same rank but the fifth card is higher, the higher pair wins. A flush, on the other hand, is a set of five cards of the same suit.
When each player makes a raise, he or she can establish a special fund called the kitty. The kitty is built by cutting a low-denomination chip from each pot that has seen more than one raise. This fund belongs to all players, and is used for the purchase of new decks of cards and food. Once the kitty is full, the kitty chips are split among the remaining players, unless a player leaves the game before the end of the game.
There are two major forms of Poker. One is called draw poker and the other is called stud poker. In draw poker, all cards are dealt face down, while in stud poker, the cards are partially revealed. In both forms of poker, the other player can see all or part of the player’s hand. Both versions of the game allow eight players to participate.
