Almost every game of poker involves using poker chips. For games involving more than seven players, poker chips should be provided. The white chip is the lowest-valued chip, while the red and blue chips are worth two, four, and five, respectively. The game of poker is played in such a way that players “buy in” by purchasing chips of the same value. However, there are several different ways in which players may buy in to a game.
In the most basic version of Poker, players receive five cards. Each card has a numerical value that is inversely proportional to its mathematical frequency. When two or more players have the same five-card combination, they may make a “showdown” by betting that they have the best hand. The other players must match this bet. In some games, players may bluff in order to win by betting that they have the best hand and losing money if the other player doesn’t.
The limit for a poker hand can be two, five, or 10 chips. This limit changes with the stage of the game. Usually, the limit is five before the draw and ten after. Then, during the first four betting intervals, a player can bet two chips, five after a draw, and ten after the drawing. The final betting interval is usually ten chips. If a player has a pair, the limit is higher.
